Would you like to have your own website but  not sure where to start?  Are you baffled by talk of domain registration, web hosting, MYSQL but want to have a presence on the internet?

I can set up your own website and I can teach you how to update and develop it. For a very reasonable fee, I can do the following: Get your own website up and running quickly and painlessly

1. Advise you about how to register your chosen domain name. (If you have a domain name already registered, all I’ll need to do is tell you how to make it point to the webspace that I’ll provide for you - see below).

2. Provide you with professional web hosting so your site is always online. This is quality hosting with 99.99% uptime (you can probably buy cheaper hosting but your site may be unavailable for periods of time, which rather defeats the purpose of setting one up in the first place).

3. Set up and install Wordpress (or a choice of other top software including shopping carts and forums) and get the front page configured and up and running.

4. Set up and provide you with the means to access your dedicated email addresses (configured however you like, for example, enquiries@mynewwebsite.com or dave@mynewwebsite.com etc.)

5. Personally show you how to use the  software so you can gain the confidence to go and build your website yourself. This will include showing you how to create and delete pages, how to add images to your posts, and how to change the appearance of your site by changing the theme and/or installing widgets.

6. Provide advice on how you can host advertising on your website which may, if you generate enough traffic, enable you to make money from your website.

7. Submit your site to the major search engines (i.e. Google, Yahoo and MSN).

8. Set up a sitemap so that your site can be automatically and completely indexed by the major search engines.

9. Set up auto-pinging so that hundreds of search engines and blog index websites can track any updates you make to your website automatically.

10. Install a means for you to monitor the visitors to your website in detail via your website control panel.

11. Ongoing email or telephone support if you get stuck or, if you prefer, I can direct you to websites and forums where you can find other people with the same questions as you.

I have set up a number of succesful websites in this manner where the users initially had no idea where to start. Once up and running though, they have all learned to manage and develop their sites themselves. I will be happy to provide you with their web addresses on request so you can see what they have done.

My fees for helping you to set up your own website are as follows:

1. Domain name registration if required (it’s better if you do this yourself so everything is securely in your own name) £15 + registration fee (domains are registered on a per year basis so you will have to decide how long you wish to register the domain for, and renew it when that period expires. Typical registration fees for a .com domain would be £20 for two years, sometimes less).

2. Hosting - this is the physical storage of your digital web pages on my hosting account - all websites have to be hosted somewhere. £50 per year payable at the start and renewable each year.

3. Set up fee - £250 - this covers:

  • Analysing your needs and expectations
  • Installation of the Wordpress (or other) software onto the server
  • Configuring additional plugins to maximise the effectiveness of the software and enabling you to track the visitors to your site
  • Setting up your front page
  • Setting up email accounts as required (which can be accessed from stand alone email programs such as outlook, endurance etc.)
  • Teaching you how to use the software - I will provide at least four hours one-to-one tuition to ensure that you have the confidence to  develop your website by yourself. Additional support time can be provided if required for an additional fee. If you don’t want to learn how to do it yourself and want a basic site to advertise your services, I can set that up instead in lieu of the 4 hours tuition.

4.Ongoing support by telephone or email. If you get stuck, you can drop me a mail or give me a ring and I’ll do my very best to help.

In other words, £300 will buy you a professional looking website that can grow and be developed however you like it, and will include genuine support to get you started.
